Acrylic & Dip Removal

Acrylic and Dip are, in essence, the same product (application is different). Acrylics are absolutely the most difficult product to remove and we strongly encourage anyone not to use them on your nails. Over time, it will destroy your natural nail for many reasons including sub-par quality products on the market, and more importantly, harmful and dangerous removal practices.

We take all services including removal of acrylic nails very seriously at MU NAILS. Acrylics are almost always impossible to completely remove but we will try to use the safest method to do so. This requires additional service time and hence our charge for this service is exponentially higher compared to other nail salons.

As a disclaimer, if you already have damaged nails from several acrylic sessions from other nail salons; if you experience pain, sensitivity, swelling, nerve damage, etc., we cannot make that go away in 1 session. We will try our best to offer you the best professional removal at our discretion.

Fake Aprés Gel-X

There has been a surge of fake Aprés Gel-X on the market and we have seen many first-time customers come in that require removal of them. Please note, that non-genuine Aprés Gel-X removal carries additional charge(s) as oftentimes, it ends up taking as much time as that of the acrylic removal process.

If this is your first-time visit and you require the removal of Aprés Gel-X, we will determine if it is genuine during the removal process. If we deem that it is not genuine Aprés Gel-X. We will let you know of the findings and advise on further and any additional removal costs. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is in an attempt to remove it.

Shellac vs. UV Gel

UV Gel and Shellac are essentially the same because they require curing under UV light. Shellac is a hybrid of gel and regular nail polish while UV Gel is gel in the form of polish therefore UV Gel is more durable due to its formulation. Both UV Gel and Shellac can be soaked off with acetone.

For this reason, we carry and use UV GEL at MU NAILS due to its longer-lasting properties and durability.

UV Gel vs. Hard Gel

Hard Gel (also referred to as Biogel) before curing is dense and thick in viscosity. It is used to add strength and create structure to the nail, it can also be used to create extensions. In contrast, UV Gel (also referred to as soft gel and soak-off gel) is too soft to be used for this purpose and is used only as polish. We recommend clients with soft, brittle, sensitive nails apply hard gel to their gel service to add more protection to their natural nails.

Polygel vs. Acrylic

Polygel is the latest technology in the nail industry. It’s an all-in-one product that replaces both acrylic and hard gel because it encompasses all the benefits of both but without any disadvantages of either. Polygel is odourless and weighs lighter and stronger. In other words, Polygel is not an acrylic, neither is a hard gel, in fact, it pretty much combines the benefits of both in one innovative system that is undeniably better!

P.S. We do not offer acrylics at MU NAILS because it is a much more harmful product for your nail health. Polygel is the best replacement with no compromise.

What is your removal process?

At MU NAILS, we use e-file to remove most products and only in certain circumstance will we make change to using acetone as it is still a chemical and will have slight damage on your natural nail bed over extended period of use. Acetone will be used for those that already have very damaged and sensitive nails and when e-file tools would cause discomfort, this is usually because of incorrect prior removal processes such as over filing.

Many of you might be skeptical and say: “but I’ve had e-file removal before and it hurts”. This is not true if you have the professional skillset on how to use the e-file tool. Our skillful staff is trained to carefully and safely remove the product on your nails.

An untrained, non-proficient nail artist can slowly cause your natural nail bed to become thinner over time and will lead to gradual stages of increase sensitivity, soreness, pain, and eventually doing detrimental damage to your nail bed and cuticles.
